Crazy assertions today in the Bozeman Chronicle, huh? Is this what public discourse has come to, just making things up and having reporters relay it to the community without question? The article reported that crime has increased in 78 percent of the state’s jurisdictions since medical marijuana became legal in Montana. A report published by the Montana Board of Crime Control says the crime rate is at the lowest in 32 years. For accurate stats on crime in Montana, click here.
We have a big week ahead of us. On Saturday, June 18, in Butte, there’s an all day fest and MTCIA fundraiser. Stop by and talk to gubenatorial candidate Dave Wanzenried. Then, on Monday and Tuesday, we go to court and make our case for an injunction against SB 423. MTCIA will be tweeting from the courtroom. More info to come on how to follow the deliberations. Our attorney is hoping for a quiet courtroom (low to no attendence) – we want the law to be on trial, not advocates. It’s been a way the opposition has played the issue for a long time. Since it’s difficult to prove cannabis is dangerous, they try to make the patients, businesses, and supporters seem like the danger.
Let’s not distract the judge or reporters. Let’s simply not provide the opportunity to comment on us. Let Goetz do his job. Let the focus be on the real issue: SB 423 is riddled with unconstitutional provisions and there are citizens who will suffer irreparable harm should the law be allowed to go into effect.
We’re down to the wire. Two weeks to d-day.
Put on your calendar, too, fundraisers in Missoula, June 23, and Billings, June 26. There will be much to discuss.

The quote about the crime rate, though still false, didn’t say that crime was up 78%, rather that “crime has increased in 78 percent of the state’s jurisdictions since medical marijuana became legal in Montana.” It’s still a load of horseshit. Go get ‘em!
I had to go look at the stats after reading this, only because I have realized I was fed so many lies when I grew up that I need to start doing the legwork on my own and not depend upon others to do so for me. I looked at all the numbers in years 2004 and 2009, the last year for complete numbers, and there isn’t 78% in ANY category! There are a few counties where crime has increased in a large amount – 1 crime in 2004, 6 now – that puts the increase over 75%. In a majority of the counties crime has GONE DOWN! Drug offenses have DECREASED! I suspect there are a few sheriff/police departments that are targeting medical cannabis, trying to keep their jobs or something, but NOTHING I saw would EVER cause concern in most anyone’s life. If there is something YOU think is concerning, please let me know – I want to have all the facts and hear arguments from both sides so I can either support my position or play devil’s advocate!
Just to clarify, I support MTCIA wholeheartedly. I just wanted to point out that the above MTCIA article had originally misinterpreted the Chronicle’s quote about the statistics. I thought it important that, even if THEY (the “official” quoted) don’t maintain any integrity by fabricating numbers, that the MTCIA article should be as correct and accurate as possible in reciting their bogus assertions.
I hope the sheeple and inbreds in Montana WAKE UP.

I have been told that in billings it is the 26th not the 25th as it says on the bottom of this.

What type of crime are they talking about? There are many different types of crime! Drinking and driving is a crime but they want to generalize all crimes and link them directly to medical marijuana. Informed people know this is bunch of BS.
